String Software was incorporated in Delaware in December 1996 for the purpose of the commercial pursuit of computer software and services. Like string, providing easy-to-use, broad utility should be the goal of an increasing amount of software and is reflected in the choice of corporate name.

Gnome Stock Analyst is the first software package to become a functional application. The sale of Gnome software (including additional investment vehicles) was the initial business concept predating incorporation of String Software. Incorporation was not undertaken until Gnome reached a functional (alpha) level.

The Web site application of Gnome Stock Analyst is presently receiving highest priority toward full commercialization. This business decision is based on minimizing the personal time commitment on the part of the client. The Web pages rely on the same computation as the standalone software but provide Stock closing prices and volumes without a separate look-up.
